Problems Apogee PDF RIP v1 or v2 on Win2000
Hello,
I have differents PDF RIP (v1, v2) installed on different PC (Win2000), connected with Accuset or Avantra.
On each machine, when I try to start PDF RIP, I always get an error message :
"Echec at starting of the APIS driver. There is a problem with the connected device. Would you like to retry or..."
So I try to install it on WinNT (the same version of PDF RIP with the same APIS card)...... No problem, the RIP starts and works properly.
I think that is a Apis card driver problem but I don't find any specific driver for win2000.
I'm open for any suggestion.
PS : please don't write "contact your agfa reseller....." because we are second-hand resellers and AGFA really don't help resellers like us.

Open up User Manual for that RIPs and read System Requirements:
Microsoft Windows NT Workstation, version 4.0 with Service Pack 3 or
later (print spooling from the Macintosh, and Macintosh file sharing
functions, require Windows NT Server, version 4.0 with Service Pack 3 or
later).

Thank you for your reply. About the v1 of PDF RIP, ok.
But about PDF RIP v.2
Apogee PDF RIP for Windows 2.0 read me first :
New Features
============
Support for Windows 2000 Professional and Server.
-------------------------------------------------
Windows 2000 Service Pack 1 and Windows 2000 Hotfix (Pre-SP2) Q263823 are delivered on a separate CD-ROM and are required for proper operation of Apogee PDF RIP 2.0 on Windows 2000. Also Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 6a remains supported.
My OS : Windows 2000 server sp4
Each PDF RIP that I have seen in fonction was installed on a Win2000 OS.

In case of Apogee PDF RIP for Windows Series2 v2.0 - did you install all RIP Updates?

I may be wrong as it's been so long ago but I don't think Windows 2000 Service Pack 4 was supported until Apogee Series 3 came out. Perhaps if you were to uninstall Service Pack 4 and install Service Pack 1?
Not sure if this will help or not but I thought I would mention it.

Thank you, I will try to uninstall sp4 and try with sp1 and pre-sp2.

I work with an Apogee PDF RIP serie 2 (first the basis release of Apogee, and then (some monthes later) the update 6) running on Windows 2000 Server SP4, connected to an Avantra.
I made all the installations myself (Windows, Apogee RIP, and network) and I never had to install any APIS driver separately... I guess that this APIS driver is installed with the RIP and the rest of the RIP's components...
And I'm not sure that this message "Echec at starting of the APIS driver. There is a problem with the connected device. Would you like to retry or..." is caused by a problem of communication between the RIP and the APIS card...
... but I guess that it comes from a problem of connection between the APIS card and the imagesetter: problem with the cables, or imagesetter not turned on...
I sometimes got this message, but the only cases were if I tried to launch the RIP with the imagesetter off-switched, or having not waited enough for the imagesetter to be fully initialized and ready (and I'm really not sure, but you may also perhaps have that kind of problems if the imagesetter is out of film).

1. If a film is not loaded - Imagesetter OFF-Line!
2. APIS card (PAC/UPAC board) has one of data (transmitter or receiver) channel broken in the chip and no Imagesetter status can be recognized. But that's not your case 'cause WinNT installation has no problem

Yes, you're right.
When the imagesetter is OFF-line, the Apogee 2 cannot launch, but displays :
"Message : Printer in Pause.
Il y a un problème avec le périphérique connecté.
Souhaitez-vous réessayer ou annuler ?"

All's right, thank you for your support. :-)
I just retrieve the CD contains the update 6 of PDF RIP v2.
Since I installed it, I don't have any problems.
