Default Apogee PDF Rip 1.01 on macintosh

Have SelectSet 7000 with NT and macintosh front end. We are using a G4 and our software requires OS 9.2.2 - when I start the Apogee RIP software I get the Apis card error. I have reinstalled the software. My question is- the APIS card - is it hardware on the Mac or a software driver?
On one post someone wrote to make sure the Apogee extension icon loads on start up. What does the icon look like?

    Default Pdf rip

Our PDF RIP software is on a Mac G4 OS9.2.2 - the print drive is on a pc NT
I know our equipment is old (1998) but my boss does not want to go totally digital just yet.
When I start the Apogee 1.01 I get the message about the APIS driver - I have tried reinstalling but it doesn't work. I would use one of the older macs that we used before but their ethertalk network ports have died. So I am stuck.

Your APIS card (PAC board) installed into PC running PrintDrive to output at SS7000.
You Mac RIP output should be PrintDrive, not APIS device.
    Check your RIP parameters.
BTW Apogee RIP server will not start, if there are no network connection physically.
You will not get connection RIP<--->Imagesetter/PrintDrive.
