Unhappy Type looks good in film but photos are pixelated, HELP PLEASE!!

We are printing a book that has both type and photos on each page. When the film came out, the first sheet was fine, but then on the others the type was fine but the photos were pixelated. The booked is printed in all k / white except for the cover which is cmyk. Somewhere between the graphic artists computer and the rip something is going wrong. The impositions look fine until you send them to the imagesetter to make the film. We do this book every year and have never had this problem. Please help as we need to keep this job moving and get it done!!! Thank you for any and all help.

A little more information would be helpful. How are they being imposed? Preps? Other? Are .pdfs being created for imposition or are the native files being imposed?
By the time I walk out of here, I'm going to be a lean, mean, prepress machine...

We have now figured out that the acrobat distiller setting had accidentally been changed from high quality print to proof 50. That's what happens when the boss gets involved in things he shouldn't. Thank you for the responses.
